Should a photojournalists ethics be absolute or situational? Why?
Situational, because there are certain lines that should not be crossed. There are also certain things the photographer can do to enhance their picture. Such as cropping, levels, sharpening etc. i do think it is unethical to change the truth of the photo.
Can a photo really capture truth? Why or why not?
Yes. it's capturing what was there and what was happening at that time, there is nothing fake about it.
What decisions have you made as a photographer that "edit" reality? Explain.
cropping, changing levels, contrast, adding effects (sepia, B&W, etc.)
Why is it important that news organizations have clearly defined ethical standards?'
So every one follows the same guidlines.
List the changes that were made to the model's face in the computer.
dodge and burn, enlarger, squeezer, etc
In your opinion, explain if you think it is ethically ok to change a person's appearance like this in a photo.
I think it is unethical because it make women think that they can look like that by just using the dove product.
Under what circumstances is it worse than others?
It's worse when they don't tell the consumer that they are fake.
What types of changes are ok, and what aren't?
physical changes and not completely changin the truth
Explain what you think the differences are between fashion photography and photojournalism. What relationship does each have to reality, and how does this affect the ethics of each.
Fashion photos are expected to be perfect.

Ethics
1. Summarize the main points of the story in 1-4 sentences.
At University of Wisconsin Madison a picture was doctored to fit a african american face into the cover of the new brochure for the school. It was said that they wanted to express the diversity of the school and by printing a picture of an all white corwd that it did not properly represent the school's diversity.
2. Explain why you think what University of
Wisconsin-Madison was wrong or allowable.
I honestly think the University did a bad thing. If they want their school to be represented adaquately they should have specifically taken a composed, well thought out picture with a diverse crowd to begin with. This picture was not the only picture being considered for the cover of the brochure.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ETHICAL:
- I think by just simply
moving a pyramid isn't
taking anything away.
If anything it is adding
to the photo.
I think this is unethical because it is making it look like
Clinton and Castro met when in actuallity they didn't. Which is giving
off an impression that should not be given out.
9/11 Assignment
RULE OF THIRDS
In this photo, the rule of thirds is used, vertically.
on the left side of the photo you have the honorary men, then there is a small space in the middle and on the right side there is a soldier's glove holding a hat with the picture of a fallen soldier. The small space between the living honored men on the left and the fallen soldier i the hat on the right represents the small space between the two realities.
AVOIDING MERGERS
This photo would be much more meaningful if the little bald kid in the foreground was gone to get more of the praying soldiers on the left.
BALANCE
In this photo,the balance isn't so much physical but more emotional.
There are soldiers staarting on the foreground right moving towards teh background and then there are soldiers lined up starting from the background left towards the foreground right...
LINES
This photo is a good example of lines because all the lines are going the same way. towards the man playin the instrument.
FRAMING
The framing is bad because the photographer cut off the firefighters face off on the left side...
Negatives Critique
Our negatives didn't show up.
we came to the conclusion that it was a probablem with the camera.
we even noticed before we shot that the camera that the numbers weren't moving and the camera wasn't winding so when out pictures came out, the entire negative strip was blank.
=(
Action.Story.Fill the Frame
ACTION AND EMOTION
I think this one shows alot of emotion.
FILLING THE FRAME
This one tells a good story.
It's deep.
the act of him looking down at a "book" (maybe, probably, i mean he's in a library)
Then the small act of his other hand on the book on the shelf is getting his hands away from his body.
Like he is so interested in these books.
I do wish, though that the the book had a clever title on it. something that would be hinting at something.
like the books in the background be children's books and he has his hands on like an Einstein book or laws of physics or something complicated like that
hmm. sounds like a good photo idea...
Happiness. excitment. Focus is on egg and smile in the background captures the picture in "halves" face on one side and the beaker on the other half.
FILLING THE FRAME
I like this one because it fills the frame completely. The foreground is in focus and the girl is in the background and out of focus. but i do wish that she had a better look on her face...
Inspiring Picture
BW Open2003
Fall Contest
Highland Park HS - Dallas, TX
I really like this picture because of the amount of feeling that is in it!
The lighting makes it all the better because if it was flat lighting the picture wouldn't have the meaning it does with such a high contrast photo!
Pinhole PIX
guitar is in focus.
yes it is warped.
it is a fisheye style.
abnormally large in the front and tapering off towards the sides of the image.
Yes there is a person. (persons)
nothing is really in focus...
looks like someone was holding it...
warped opposite of the 1st image.
gets larger towards the sides of the picture.
Good pic. bad pic.
I like this picture because the photographer used the rule of thirds.
Setting the subject off to the left, this shows a more creative frame.
The photographer also caught the subect in the middle of an action, laughing. (candid. in action.)
So, in short, the photographer used their knowledge of off centering to capture a memerable photograph.
This picture isn't the best because the subject doesn't really fill the frame.
also there is no other elements to the photo.
no background.
very simple. plain and kinda boring.
just my opinions
